About Us

The Australian Centre for Emotionally Focused Therapy (ACEFT) is passionate about creating strong relationships and helping individuals to thrive. We share information about Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for clients and therapists and help to connect people interested in EFT. We provide training in EFT for therapists, and have two clinics offering EFT therapy in Queensland Australia; Spring Hill and Morningside.

ACEFT was established by Dr Jennifer Fitzgerald and Dr Clare Rosoman (right) in 2014 and serves three main roles; providing quality psychological treatment, training EFT practitioners, and providing a network for EFT practitioners and clients in Australia.

ACEFT is affiliated with the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT), Ottawa, Canada. ICEEFT was founded in 1998 by Dr. Sue Johnson and her colleagues. It offers educational courses and training to mental health professionals, provides certification for EFT therapists around the world and undertakes clinical research studies. ICEEFT works closely with its various affiliated EFT Centres and Communities throughout the world (see for more information).

Dr Sue Johnson talks about Attachment & EFT:
Attachment science offers us the most potent model for therapeutic change, especially when dealing with anxiety and depression, and that, of all models of intervention, EFT most closely captures the essence of the attachment perspective. It targets the defining feature of survival-oriented human connection, namely strong emotion, and systematically shapes core bonding interactions with others.
See her newest book Attachment Theory in Practice: EFT with Individuals, Couples and Families, for more information.

Our Mission

We are a psychology practice and EFT training facility with attachment at our heart. Whether we are providing evidence-based treatment for adults, children, couples and families or training practitioners in the EFT model, we prioritize connections between people and believe in the transformative power of attachment in healing and enhancing wellbeing.  As Bowlby put it best, we need connections with special others “from the cradle to the grave”. Our mission is to assist people in forging those precious bonds.  To this end, we are delighted to facilitate the growth of EFT in Australia and to see our clients flourish under its gentle touch.

What We Do

EFT has accumulated a body of evidence through over 20 years of research. The scientific evidence supports that it is a highly effective form of couple’s therapy. EFT is an evidence-based model of couple’s therapy that has developed alongside the science on adult attachment and bonding. It focuses on helping couples to restructure their attachment bond. Research studies find that 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery and approximately 90% show significant improvements in relationship satisfaction. With these impressive research outcomes, EFT has clearly shown itself to be a leading form of couples therapy across the world.

EFT is for ALL COMMITTED COUPLES, whether heterosexual, same-sex, monogamous or non-standard. Enhancing relationships by strengthening attachments is where EFT shines.

We assist people struggling with relationship distress, sexual dysfunction, recovery from affairs; as well as family conflict or disconnection. EFT has enormous value for helping families strengthen their attachment bonds and move through conflict.

EFT has been successfully extended to individuals and families and our psychologists use this model as well as other evidence-based models such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy,  Mindfulness, and Interpersonal Therapy in order to provide best care for our individual and family clients. We assist people of all ages struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, low motivation, stress, loss of motivation and more.

Dr Jennifer Fitzgerald is the only ICEEFT Certified EFT Trainer in Australia. She regularly conducts training workshops throughout Australia. Dr Clare Rosoman is involved in EFT teaching in association with Jenny. Jenny and Clare have presented internationally in the fields of EFT couples therapy and sexual dysfunction.  They provide supervision for therapists learning the EFT model in Australia and overseas (New Zealand, Singapore and Korea).

We will regularly post information about EFT training events here in Australia and New Zealand, links to useful websites and resources, and the contact details of newly certified EFT couples therapists and supervisors.

ACEFT  aims to provide a web-based networking tool for EFT therapists in Australia and New Zealand. This website allows EFT therapists from Australia and New Zealand, as well as those interested in the EFT model, to come together as a community.

If you are a client looking for an EFT therapist in Australia, please go to the “Find an EFT Therapist” page and browse through the list of practitioners to see their level of EFT training and their location in Australia. This provides assurance that the therapist you choose is trained in this professional, evidence-based model of couples therapy.
