ACEFT Mission

Why we do what we do

ACEFT is part of the larger network of centers and communities overseen by the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). Communities and centers share EFT with the world and create a supportive network for therapists.

Our Mission: Why so passionate about EFT?

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is all about the promotion of secure, resilient individuals and successful relationships between partners and within families. ACEFT is passionate about this model of therapy because it works and it treats ALL people with dignity and kindness. That's why we do what we do. We believe in this model and want to share it with Australia.

ACEFT's mission is to further the reach of EFT in Australia by providing information about EFT, offering and listing training for mental health professionals in EFT, and creating and supporting community amongst EFT therapists. Along with ICEEFT, ACEFT supports the mission of educating health professionals and increasing public awareness about the efficacy of EFT and its role in strengthening relationship bonds and mental health.

Making EFT Accessible to All

Turning our mission into action

EFT trainer Clare Rosoman (she/her) is dedicated to making EFT accessible for all therapists and for all human relationships. She is committed to embracing diversity in the EFT community and ensuring that EFT spaces feel welcoming to all. Diversity in the wonderful therapists in our EFT community is embraced as we all come together to learn and grow from one another. An important part of an EFT training event with Clare is reflection on self-of-therapist issues such as our own personal biases, power dynamics in therapy and exploring our own triggers and sensitivities. Clare is committed to being anti-racist and anti-oppressive in her work, acknowledging that this work is always ongoing and is built on the generosity of those willing to share their perspective with her.

Committed action to include all

  • Clare and ACEFT are committed to making EFT training spaces inclusive to all people and all relationships
  • At least one training event each year will focus on how EFT can assist those with a lived experience of oppression and marginalisation
  • At least one scholarship (no fee) place will be offered at each EFT core training event run by Clare
  • All participants in Clare's core trainings will complete a pre-training webinar on cultural humility and honoring diversity in EFT
  • This is freely available to all therapists to view HERE

Educating therapists about EFT

  • Providing high quality EFT training that adheres to the ICEEFT requirements and guidelines to ensure that therapists meet the training requirements for Certification as an EFT therapist with ICEEFT.
  • Including diverse examples in EFT training to represent a wide range of people and lived experiences
  • Providing up-to-date information on EFT via the ACEFT website
  • Articles on the ACEFT website will represent and elevate marginalised voices and under represented groups so that the applicability of EFT to all can be clearly demonstrated

Supporting the growth of EFT communities

  • Active support of EFT communities in their development and growth
  • Support and advertising of EFT events in Australia run by all communities
  • Active support of Peer Development Groups to enable therapists to connect at no cost
  • Elevating many voices, including diverse voices in the EFT community through:
    • sharing their articles,
    • supporting their training events or groups, and
    • mentoring people from marginalised backgrounds into positions of leadership in the EFT community.
We aim to cultivate a climate of inclusion, an environment where all can feel safe, valued and cared for, and given an opportunity to form meaningful connections with each other. In all facets of our work, we strive to embody what we hope to see in the world - a just, loving humanity and community in which people are free to be themselves fully - where people can embrace their most basic universal human attachment needs without fear of persecution or marginalisation as a result of religion, race, ethnic or national origin, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, class, mental health, physical character or disability. These values are inherent in the attachment science and humanistic approach to intervention that all our work is based on.
