Dr Alyssa Ryan is a clinical psychologist trained by the University of Qld in the clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of mental health issues. Alyssa believes in using evidence-based treatments and takes a strengths-based, collaborative approach to therapy. She has advanced training in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and emotionally focused therapy (EFT).

Alyssa has worked with individuals and groups in inpatient, community, and private practice settings. She has helped people with issues including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, grief and loss, chronic illness, schizophrenia, psychosis, substance abuse, and personality disorders and worked with couples to resolve their relationship distress. Alyssa’s doctoral research examined ways to increase resilience and quality of life for individuals experiencing chronic illness.  Most recently, she has worked providing treatment for youth sexual offenders.

Alyssa has a particular interest in working with individuals or couples experiencing difficulties resulting from trauma and she loves working with LGBTIQ+ rainbow couples. She sees her therapeutic goal as helping people work out how to change their lives to be more meaningful and rewarding – as individuals or through their relationships.
