EFT Therapist Supervision

EFT Supervision & Case Consultation

Clinical Supervision or case consultation is a process where therapists confidentially discuss their cases and their development in the EFT model with a supervisor in order to receive support, advice, encouragement and skill-refinement.

Read on to find an EFT supervisor or click here to learn with colleagues in a peer development group.

Clinical Supervision or case consultation for the purpose of professional development, is a vital part of training to become an EFT therapist. As well as furthering and maintaining growth in the model, EFT supervision encourages therapists to be more self-reflective and self-aware.

What is EFT Supervision?

EFT supervision is a supportive experience designed to encourage and validate novice and advanced EFT therapists in their development within the model. Cases are discussed in a de-identified manner, struggles are normalised and shared, successes are celebrated, and feedback is framed in a supportive and strength-based way. All therapists, no matter how experienced, benefit from case consultation and reflection on their therapeutic process as part of their professional development program.

EFT Supervision Process

Supervision is encouraged throughout all levels of EFT acquisition and maintenance and is considered vital for mastery of this sophisticated and deceptively simple model. Supervision is most effective when supervisees bring video or audio recordings of their work with clients to show to their supervisor (only with client consent). The EFT model of supervision includes the use of role-play, real world examples and concrete guidance regarding how to frame concepts in an EFT-consistent manner.

Find an EFT Supervisor

We are proud to have many certified EFT supervisors throughout Australia as well as several ICEEFT-approved supervisors in training, keen to offer their support to EFT therapists of all abilities. They have devoted considerable time and energy to the process of becoming certified with ICEEFT as EFT supervisors. Supervisors can be contacted directly to organise consultations. All of the listed supervisors conduct supervision online for those not in their local area and their supervision hours will count towards EFT certification.

ICEEFT Certified EFT Supervisors in Australia

NOTE: As stated on the ICEEFT website:

The words “supervisor” and “supervision” are used expressly for the purpose of training in the EFT model, and do not imply / constitute any ethical / legal responsibility for cases discussed. For all intents and purposes, a Certified EFT Supervisor is an EFT consultant. All therapists receiving such supervision / consultation are wholly responsible for the therapy they provide and they are also responsible for receiving appropriate supervision, as required, by their respective governing and/or licensing authorities https://iceeft.com/road-to-certification/ (2020).

Online Supervision Groups

Online supervision groups are a great way to consolidate your EFT understanding, to keep your EFT skills developing and to learn from other peoples’ experiences. See below for dates and times of the online supervision groups run by some of our Australian EFT supervisors.

  • Prerequisite: we generally recommend that people have completed an Externship in EFT 4-day workshop before commencing an online supervision group (see Therapist Training Overview page for more information). Feel free to email the supervisor if you have any questions.
  • Online platform: Online groups use Zoom (online conferencing software) and participants will be given the instructions to connect upon registering for a group. With the groups’ consent, some of the supervisors will record the session for participants to re-watch before the next group.
  • Times:  Please check your time zone when booking.
  • Cancellations: Participants can cancel their registration up to 1mth before the group commences at no cost. For those who cancel within 1mth of the group commencing, they will be offered credit towards a future group.

Dr Clare Rosoman's Group Supervision

Groups 1 & 3: Advanced

This online supervision group is for therapists who are wanting to extend their EFT skills, who are working towards EFT certification or who want to lean right into their learning edges to refine, enhance and nuance their EFT work. This group is all about continual growth and development in a supportive environment where we all acknowledge our edges, blind-spots and “clunky” spaces. Each session, a participant presents a case, with or without video (but video makes the learning so much more powerful) and we look at specific moments where the therapist felt uncertain, blocked or triggered. This allows us to dive deeply into the model and into self-of-the-therapist themes that can come alive in order to best use the model and ourselves as tools for therapeutic change. The session where a group member presents a case can be counted as one hour of supervision towards ICEEFT Certification as an EFT Therapist. With the consent of the group, Clare records each session and sends the group a private link to view the group again for a limited period of time between sessions.

Groups 2 & 4: Refining

In Clare’s refining supervision groups we spend approximately 20mins on general EFT theory and interventions before then discussing a case that one group member presents. Clare provides tips and tools as relevant to the topics raised. Each session, a participant presents a case (either past or present) and receives feedback and suggestions from Clare and the group on the use of EFT and where to focus next in their work. These groups are wonderful for developing and consolidating your EFT skills and for hearing about others’ struggles and triumphs. The session where a group member presents a case can be counted as one hour of supervision towards ICEEFT Certification as an EFT Therapist. With the consent of the group, Clare records each session and sends the group a private link to view the group again for a limited period of time between sessions.

Clare & Phoenix’s Special 6-week Supervision Group – Prioritising Polyamory in Practice

In this special 6-week block of EFT supervision sessions, Clare (EFT Trainer) and Phoenix (proudly polyamorous psychotherapist) join forces to bring you a rich and exciting learning opportunity! Whether you are currently working with polyamorous/multi-partnered relationships or would like to gain the confidence to work with relationships where more than two partners are involved, this group will provide an opportunity to bring your cases and questions for lively and informative discussion. We will focus on applying EFT skilfully and sensitively with polycules or with dyads who also have other partners. Each session will begin with a focus on a concept relevant to working with EFT in multi-partnered relationships followed by a participant-led topic or case discussion centred on the questions and experiences of members of the group. Our hope is that this group will build individual practitioners’ confidence and skill in working with diverse relationships, contributing to equitable access to high-quality EFT for all people in all relationships.

Self-of-the-Therapist

We aim to provide a supportive environment to take your EFT work a little deeper. We will look at ways to use yourself and the relationship with your clients to help support corrective emotional experiences. We will help you tune into your practice to explore your personal responses in the therapy room, and how to draw on your secure-therapist-self; whilst supporting each other towards self-care. Each week the therapist is encouraged to bring one case (past or present) that has been challenging. The focus of discussion around this case will be more about the impact the couple had on the therapist.

General Case-Based

Each member will present a case to the group (1 case per week), with the group addressing key questions regarding issues with alliance, conceptualisation, experiential (putting learning into practice), or self-of-therapist issues, in a warm and supportive environment. We aim to celebrate successes and be a safe place to share our struggles.

EFT: A Refuge and a Roadmap

The EFT model provides both a safe haven and a secure base for therapists and clients, bringing security, purpose and confidence to sessions. Want to refine your understanding of the stages and steps in EFT? Want to increase your confidence in knowing where your clients are in each session and where to go next? Want to enhance your skill in using the EFT Tango at a micro and macro level to structure your session and create corrective emotional experiences? Then join us as we explore Sue Johnson’s EFT Model together: - Deepen your understanding of the 3 stages and 9 steps. - Learn the connections between the steps and how to transition between them. - Discover how the EFT Tango maps on to the stages and steps and provides a template for session structure. - Gain confidence to relax into the safety of this model with your clients and let it carry you and them to good places. - Explore the application of the model to individual (EFIT), couple (EFT) and family (EFFT) cases. Using a mixture of teaching, video excerpts, experiential exercises and discussion we’ll adventure and learn together. Come join us!

Share Their Cycles: Case Review

A supervision group for therapists wanting to undertake one of the most challenging and rewarding forms of EFT learning: case review. Bring a couple, individual or family case you’d like to share, and - if you’re feeling brave, a video (or audio) excerpt - and let’s explore meaningful methods for self-review, peer review and deep reflection. Each week we’ll create a safe haven to focus in on one participant’s client case and a key learning question of that person’s choosing, trying out a range of collaborative review techniques to help us develop our practice through experiential learning. Presentation of recordings is not required, but is encouraged, and is a great way to prepare for EFT certification, too.

Therapist as Instrument: Self-of-the-Therapist and Self-Care

“Question: What is the therapist’s most valuable instrument? Answer (and no one misses this one): the therapist’s own self.” - Irvin Yalom A group in which we seek to create the safety to turn towards ourselves: Together we’ll examine how best to use our own human instruments in therapy to support our clients’ development of an integrated, secure sense of self. We’ll also consider the care we, as therapists, require and how best to create and protect space for rest, renewal and nourishment. Each week, one group member will present a case (past or present) that challenged them. We’ll explore, gently and respectfully, together.

Carolynne (Caz) Moffat's Group Supervision

An ongoing supervision and learning group becomes a safer and safer haven to learn and grow in the model. It’s a great way to learn, share, support & encourage.  A place to celebrate the joyful EFT moments, and to support each other with those ‘other’ ones. We all have them, and they diminish when shared. We’re not meant to do this alone! And it’s a safe haven to begin to take risks: like sharing a clip of your work (especially a dodgy one..), or trying a new skill in a role play, or exposing a gap in your EFT knowledge, or… EFT is a process experiential model. We learn it best through experience, and our experience is the secure base to give up confidence to go out and do it.

Each session will include a group check-in and connect;  a learning portion (the group decides the focus in advance), and a case presentation. Groups are limited to 6 members, and members will take turns to each present a case. Clip sharing is encouraged, but not required. Supervision fees are paid monthly in advance. If you’re unable to attend, there will be an option to watch the recording afterwards.
